Builder’s Licence/registration In Australia

Back to Basics Business Training Pty Ltd are often asked questions regarding the process to apply for a builder’s licence.

A Builder/Supervisor Licence/Registration is only issued by the relevant State or Territory Licensing Authority.

6 Steps To Apply For A Builder’s Licence / registration In Australia

Be prepared before you apply!!

1

Provide evidence of current/previous licence/trade/supervisory certificates
Your evidence must show “all-round structural” experience. You must provide valid and sufficient documented evidence of your practical “hands-on” experience in the Building & Construction industry. That is, evidence that you have physically carried out several construction roles, not just a specific trade.

2

You will be asked to provide Statements of Practical Experience and References from Employers, Contractors, etc

The aim is for you to provide enough relevant evidence to provide the licensing authority with a solid profile of your level of skill and understanding of construction and building.

3

Provide References

The relevant forms are provided online with a list of questions and answers that will need to be completed by each referee.  You may need to include some character references (these are written statements from friends or associates involved with the construction industry, who will vouch for your ethics and character as a person and tradesperson).

4

Insurance (Home Warranty) Eligibility

Depending on the type of licence/registration you are applying for.

5

Technical & Management Qualifications

Depending on the State or Territory, the qualification varies from a selection of Units of Competencies to a Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma Qualification supported by a Transcript of Academic Record (Record of Results). If providing copies of certificates you may be required to have them verified prior to submitting your application

6

Proof of Identification

This needs to be Photo ID e.g. Drivers Licence or Passport
