How to become a registered builder in WA

Practioners and Contractors

In accordance with the WA Dept. of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety, you have the ability to become either a contractor or a practitioner. The primary difference here is that a Practitioner is an individual and may not provide building services directly to another person whereas a Contractor can be for an individual or a business that is trading as a builder, and provide services requiring a building permit with a value of $20,000 or more and are within the Building Services Boards Jurisdiction

There are several ways to become a Registered Building Pratitioner in WA, however for that vast majority of them, a CPC50210 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) including several specific learning outcomes required (included in the Back to Basics version of this Qualification), as well as 5 to 7 years of relevent experience.

Becoming a Contractor carries far more requirements including questionaires on business process, confirmation of ability to support workers and financial viability statements.
